PhotProc made more reliable, filters now faster

Nokia 808 owners will be familiar with PhotProc, the very powerful but also very slow on-device photo processing utility - it's still in beta and is still slow, but perhaps not quite so much, at least for basic filters. Plus the default output resolution has been dropped slightly to just over two megapixels - meaning that the processing time is now down to under six seconds for basic filters and

The changelog for v0.9.5 (over the previously reported 0.9.3) is:

  • Optimizations so that basic dynamic filters are much faster (if you don't use halo removal or other features, then it's fast)
  • Default output image size is now 2MP, but you can still process original resolution if needed (this is based on user feedback: on the phone you are probably using the app just for social media etc, where 2MP is much more useful and it's faster)
  • Saves out EXIF data in the edited image
  • Bug-fixes to stop random crashes

This version is indeed faster and more stable. Though even at 'social ' resolutions many of the filters still require a good 15 seconds of processing. So don't expect miracles here.

And here's v0.9.5 in action:

The interface is clear enough, with filters and functions neatly grouped...

The resize/info pane - note that the app still thinks of itself as 0.9.4 - I'm sure the developer will fix this internal string etc.

Just one of half a dozen sets of advanced image control sliders - there's a LOT to play with here, though the more you change (with real time preview), the more rendering will be needed at the end!

You can download PhotProc 0.9.5 here directly (2MB) and you can find general project information about PhotProc here.

NB. There's one quirk in the installation process that's worth noting. There's a double set of install dialogs and 'completed' notifications - at first I thought I'd done something wrong, but it seems to be something to do with the Qt packages used by the developer. Just say 'OK' to everything and be patient etc 8-)
