You may remember that I've covered FilesPlus before, a cloud-aware file manager for Symbian that rolls in such services as Dropbox, Google Drive and SkyDrive as easily as your local microSD or mass memory? Well, there's a new version out today, v1.2.4 is a big update and I've got the changelog and link you need below.

The Store description for FilesPlus is fairly mouth watering, as usual:

File manager with cloud service integration.

  • Print a file or URL with Google™ Cloud Print.
  • Sync files with multiple cloud storages (Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Cloud Drive, FTP and WebDAV).
  • Schedule auto-sync by folder.
  • File management with cut/copy/paste.
  • Preview images in your folders.
  • Bluetooth transfer.
  • FolderPie functionalities.
  • With Russian, Deutsch, Italian and chinese translations.

Implemented in Qt, here's the changelog for FilesPlus 1.2.4 (from the previously reported v1.2.2):

  • Added to Google Cloud Print supported file types, to support .doc, .xls, .ppt, .odt, .ods, .odp
  • Support for Cubby.com
  • Added grid view
  • Added Bookmarks
  • Improved stability for large folders (over 500 items)
  • Added zipping/unzipping support
  • Many, many general bug fixes

Here's a brief look at FilesPlus 1.2.4 in action:

The file management functions are fairly standard for a one-window interface, letting you select one (or many) items, copy them to a clipboard (for example) and then paste them somewhere else, even if on a 'cloud' drive; (right) the interface is heavily context-sensitive - long press an item to see the most popular things you can do with it (and with '...' for a menu of extra functions).

In addition to the standard list views (and here I've toggled thumbnails on), there's the Grid view shown above right, obviously working rather well for folders with images in, here on my SkyDrive.

Items being downloaded/uploaded are (sensibly) handled in the background, with this 'jobs' summary available to keep track of how things are going; (right) the new bookmarks system lets you bookmark any folder, on a local or cloud drive, and get to it straight away, in one click, from this view.

The developer does note that there is known unicode file name issue with FTP and that the issue is being addressed. In addition, maybe I'm missing something but cubby.com isn't actually in the list of account types to add!

You can buy FilesPlus here in the Nokia Store for £1 - there's a lot of work gone into the application and I can recommend it, with regular updates appearing to add genuine functionality and fix bugs.
